Yanomami Cinema – Aida Harika Yanomami, Edmar Tokorino Yanomami, Roseane Yariana Yanomami and Morzaniel Ɨramari

On November 30, as part of the public program of the 35th Bienal de São Paulo, there will be a screening of four films by directors of Yanomami origin – Aida Harika Yanomami, Edmar Tokorino Yanomami and Roseane Yariana Yanomami, and Morzaniel Ɨramari – with a presentation by Hélio Menezes, part of the curatorial collective of the 35th Bienal. Urihi Haromatipë – Curadores da terra-floresta [Curators of the forest-land]

Duration: 1 hour
Synopsis: The thunder is warning: “the Earth is sick”. To heal it, Davi Kopenawa has gathered together Yanomami shamans from different regions. With the help of the food of the spirits, Yakoana snuff, they will treat the ills caused by the cities and diseases of the whites.

Mãri hi – A Árvore do Sonho [The Dream Tree]

Synopsis: When the flowers of the Mãri tree bloom, dreams appear. The words of a great shaman lead to a dreamlike experience through the synergy between cinema and Yanomami dreams, presenting the poetics and teachings of the forest peoples.

Thuë pihi kuuwi – Uma Mulher Pensando [A Woman Thinking]

Synopsis: A Yanomami woman watches a shaman prepare Yãkoana, the food of the spirits. From the narrative of a young Indigenous woman, the Yãkoana that feeds the Xapiri and allows the shamans to enter the world of the spirits also proposes a meeting of perspectives and imaginations.

Yuri u xëatima thë – A Pesca com Timbó [Fishing with Timbó]

Synopsis: Two young Yanomami filmmakers describe the process of fishing with timbó, a vine traditionally used to stun fish. The meeting of voices and perspectives suggests the re-enchantment of images as a form of storytelling.
