Thematic visits with the Bienal education team

On November 11 and 12, a series of themed visits proposed by the Bienal’s education team will happen, consisting of tours of the exhibition with specific focuses developed by the mediation team based on the research and interests that emerged during the training course.

Go to the Mediation Space – Education (green floor), near the entrance to the exhibition, to register 1 hour before the start of the visit. Subject to capacity (group of up to 20 people). Thematic visits take place every Saturday and Sunday until the end of the exhibition, at 11 am and 3 pm.

November 11 (Saturday), 11 am
Imagination workshop for Xica Manicongo
facilitated by: Malu Bandeira, Nivea Matias Silva and Yala Silva
The visit opens as an invitation to critically revisit the colonial archives about Xica Manicongo. What do we know about her? And what don’t we know? How can we remember the stories we haven’t been told? A path towards the crossroads of social justice is destined for the exercise of producing archives against the archive. On our way to meet our interlocutor, we visited works by artists such as Cabello/Carceller, Juan van der Hamen y León and Denise Ferreira da Silva. Another possibility opens up with a second movement, a poetic proposal for creation and delivery: what would you deliver to Xica?

Embroidering, sewing, weaving…
Mediation: Dilma Silva, Jhow Carvalho, Malu Bandeira and Mira Lima
The meeting proposes an embroidery experience based on the poetic universe of artists such as Arthur Bispo do Rosário, Judith Scott, Rosana Paulino and Sonia Gomes. A space for sharing will be created in which we will look at our memories and ancestral knowledge.

November 12 (Sunday), 11 am
gender: between people, documents and other species
mediation: Gabri Gregório Floriano and Iberê Terra Oliveira
Starting with issues that touch on the experiences of trans bodies, such as the right to name oneself, the performance of an identity and guaranteed documentation and legitimization, we will seek to expand concepts of gender and sexuality beyond the meanings attributed to the body and human beings. We propose a dialog between works by artists such as Cabello/Carceller and Daniel Lie, which raise, in different ways, contradictions, fabrications and celebrations that permeate and circumscribe such experiences.

November 12 (Sunday), 3 pm
FORGOTTEN CLOUDY: water~sea mythologies
Mediation: Camila Padilha Gomes and Rafaella Canuto
The visit proposes sensitive and poetic thinking about water as an enigma element present in everything that lives. Rescuing the mythical and unknown dimension of the stories that run through rivers, seas and oceans. Colliding the fantastic and the political from the body present. Works by artists such as Julien Creuzet and Castiel Vitorino Brasileiro will be discussed.
